I've got a D-7 cat that I'm dozing out some fence lines with.In order to finish the job I have to cross a stream with steep banks and I'm afraid of getting hung up I've been thinking of driving down a black top road to get to the other side instead. I was told if it was below freezing out the black top wouldn't get tore up. has anyone tried this? How cold does it have to be?

I wouldn't do it unless you want to replace the blacktop. I've seen companys that use the crawler to remove the asphalt and I don't think you'll be able to start tha ol'Cat when the temp gets low enough to travel. The other option is to have 4 friends lay down planks infront of you and other friends to pick up the planks behind you.
