Hyster D4 Winch:

I am thinking about buying a Hyster D4 winch for my Cat 955H tracloader, S/N 60A10479. The machine had a backhoe on it and the spot where the winch would go has a hydraulic pump. I took the pump off and the shaft looks the same as the one on the winch and the bolt pattern looks the same.

Can anyone tell me if this winch is a good option for the 955. I have never used the pump that is on there now and am not sure about the PTO. There is a lever on the right side of that looks like it would be the one but it is jammed under the side panel. Does it go down to engage or up? I haven’t tried it since the pump is still on and I thought it might damage it without the lines hooked up.

Do you engage the PTO while you are in neutral or in gear?

How much 5/8 cable should I put on this winch? I am going to be pulling out trees with it so want it as long as I can get.

Any ideas on rollers for the winch cable to go through. So far I have checked at a local equipment company and they have rollers made just for this, the only problem is they want over $300 a piece for each roller which is more then I want to spend.

Any help would be much appreciated.
