I'm looking at an early 80's Cat. D5B that is for sale locally. Noticed that it is made in France, this good or bad? Battery's were dead had to jump it off,12v or 24? There were two didn't notice if they were series or parallel. I ran it for about 20min. and everything seemed to work fine. Sprockets and pins look fine, pads about 75%. All the gauges in the green. Pushed up a big pile of dirt and it would sit and spin, didn't put out a lot of black smoke. Has a tilt blade and rippers, unknown hours, they're asking $20K for it. Think that's in the ballpark? Anyone have any experience with these dozers? I've worked with tractors on the farm but never with dozers.
Thanks,

Zorro, I have a sister to that machine, except mine has a full cab w/ heat. Nice tractor. Tilt, ripper. Located in Ct. E-mail if interested.

Doesn't matter what factory it was built in they are all the same. Make sure the sprockets have no side movement and the idlers are well back from the end of the track frames. A day's work with it is better but if it worked that long it likely is alright. Undercarrage and final drives are your biggest expense on that kind of a machine.
