I replaced the o-ring and back up washer in the swing cylinder and it leaks just as bad. Would it help to mayby double up the backup washer,is there room in the groove? I know there is not enough room for a double o-ring. This is the barrel type with a rotor. I had a neighbor tell me he replaced the bushing on the bottom of the rotor and got his to quit (slow down)leaking, he said the worn bushing causes the rotor to tilt a little, this doesnt seem resonable to me, but you never know. His cylinder was on a timber havester that uses this type for turning the logs at the end of a crane type arm.
What I think would be the pemanent fix would be to get rid of the cylinder and rig up a tie rod type cylinder, I heard there was an upgrade like this. Anyone have the plans for the upgrade? I could build and weld most the parts.
I finished changing out the o-rings on the backhoe remote valve spools, I got lucky, none of them leak now (so far).

This discussion came up a while back on a smaller Deere hoe. Back in the early 80s Deere had a kit to eliminate the barrel swing cylinder and go to conventional cylinders. It was expensive. I helped install a few when I worked for a Deere dealer, but don't remember much about the details. I will say this. The barrel cylinders were/are awful. Chronic leakers and low on swing power.
