why do you need the biggest and the best? td6's start easy if they run well at all. do you have a gas start four cylinder or the later 62 series direct electric start? six volt optima batteries have 800 cold cranking amps. i am currently using 1 old 450 cold cranking amp 12 volt battery out of an old air cooled vw bug. 1948 original family td6, has not had a major overhaul yet, starts fine on that small 12 volt. starts on 4th or 5th cylinder so no reason for a large reserve battery. also, it does not get real cold up here in the pacific northwest like it does in other places of the country. i would suggest using 2 12 volt batteries in parrallel. that way, the batteries can be used in a car if need be or you can use two batteries out of a car. that way you can use typical batteries and a standard 12 volt charger will charge each battery independently. hope this helps, let me know if there are any other questions, i enjoy IH gas start diesels, but we only have a 48 td6 and a 44 td9, maybe a td14 soon though. ha ha. thehickdaddy
