Do you have to split the machine in half to do a main clutch or is there a plate the comes off it can be done through? Clutch is stuck from sitting. Also whats involved in changing steering clutchs they are also stuck from sitting? Thanks for the help.

My book says on April 28, 1954, Caterpillar introduced the new D2 tractor. This machine had increased power and other service friendly changes like a "split deck" for changing the master clutch without removing the engine. Not knowing your serial number or year, I hope this helps. On your steering clutches, take off the top plate and spray with break-away or fuel oil; anything that will break up the rust. I have done this on my R2 and freed them up without disassembling them.
