I just purchased a 1979 Komatsu dozer ( d31 P-16) from an auction. It ran fine for a few minutes. Whem we went to load it, It stopped. It will run for a few feet, stop for a while then go a couple of feet more and than stop again. The engine runes fine, the fluids are full. It has 3 gears foward and 3 back. It does it in reverse also.

What could make this happen? Also, where can I get a manuel for this dozer?

Help.

Thanks,
Joseph

There is a fuel strainer in the bolt that connects the fuel line from the tank to the hand transfer pump mounted to the side of the fuel injection pump. Clamp off the line with a pair of vise grips and remove the bolt from the bottom of the pump. There will be two holes in the side of the bolt. The strainer unscrews from the end of the bolt.

Clean the strainer with air pressure and a little fuel and then reinstall it. The problem should go away.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info, but I am having problems with the transmission, or hydro. preasure I think. The engine runs fine, but when I put it in forward or reverse, it goes for a couple of feet and stops, after a couple of minutes, it will creep another couple of feet. The engine stays on and runs great. There is a slight whinning coming from the trans. I think. Not to bad, but it does whin.

Please help.

Joseph

About all you can do is check the transmission pressures. If they are at the proper specification then you have to pull the transmission to see what is broken.

Good Luck
