Hi guys, just a question I've had for a bit. When I depress my brake pedal on my 1981 John Deere 500C hoe/loader it bounces back up and quite hard, It does stop but it certainly doesn't allow for a smooth action. I can't imagine that this is working correctly but all my other machines never had brakes so I wouldn't know!! I also would like someone to explain to me what an accumulators function is, I believe I have both a brake acc... and a hyd acc... somewhere in this machine and I wondered what they do. And lastly I'd like to know where top buy a step by step repair/ service manual and if there is anything other than from JD. I have the parts book with the exploded parts but a bit more information would be helpful. Thanks for any help...!!!

According to what I was told by Deere tech guys (when I worked for a Deere dealer), the accumlators serve two functions - #1 a buffer/shock asorber to take pressure spikes out of the system, and #2 to provide a small amount of backup power for steering and brakes if the engine stalls. We used to charge a lot of them, but they usually leaked. In regard to the pedal bouncing back at you, that is common for the 2520s, 3020s, 4020s, 500s, etc., but if all is right it shouldn't do it. I assume you've already tried bleeding the brake circuit?
