I am looking at a JD555 crawler loader with a torque converter leak. Am told the machine will stop when hot and it must be turned off to let cool and then will run fine. How hard is the seal in the converter to fix, what would the approximate repair cost be at a dealer. I am buying sight unseen so sorry I couldn't provide more specifics. Any help would be appreciated.

If you do purchase this piece, You will probably find that the torque converter leak has nothing to do with the machine stopping when hot. These machines were assembled with a British Twin Disc transmissions . When these transmissions are working as they should, you can't beat them. However when these transmissions aren't , you have a major headache... Very expensive to repair...These transmissions are very labor intensive to repair. If the torque converter didn't leak the machine would probably have the same symptoms. How many times was the transmission run out of oil because of the leak??The symptoms you stated are the usual for a 555 trans. that needs overhauled....I'd look for another machine. If you could buy it for 8 or 9 thousand dollars, would it be worth putting another 7 to 8 in the transmission????
