Plain jd450 loader. Left steering clutch lever is suddenly coming back only half the distance to make it turn. The right lever is still working about the same.

Some convoluted complications first. The power steering pump bearings are apparently leaking so I ran a line from the oil pressure sending unit into the reservoir pot over the engine to keep it feed motor oil. If I leave the valve open in about an hour it starts overflowing so gotta do something about that. Will run a line from the pot back to the valve cover to dump the overflow one day soon! Meanwhile.....

While the powersteering is working the left lever begins working about right and the right does too. But when the power steering is not working the lever comes back only part way to what it used too. I noticed too that it seemed to be mainly the brake stoping the left side, so I readjusted both sides by the book and it didnt really help or change anything. I do notice that the brake band adjusting bolt on the right side feels much looser than the left side. The detent positions are looser and when I back it off as specified in the manual, it feels real floppy while the left side seems tight and as soon as I leave detent it gets real tight real fast.

I did let it set out a lot during the winter and I did notice that first time I used it it all loosend up after a while of running and skidding logs. What should I do to avoid causing damage?

jdemaris please help!!!

I've been to 2 county fairs and a heifer breeding in my lifetime, but I've never heard of doing this with engine oil.....It sounds as if you need to repair or replace that pump and clean out the system... As far as the lever engaging the brake sooner than it should, It sounds as if the linkage where you adjust the brake band timing to the throw out bearing is stuck on the shaft..This causes the brake band to come on before it should..Always cover the rear of the machine when it's not being used. I cover mine from the dashboard to over the tank assembly. Moisture from rain and snow leaks into the clutches and will cause problems like this . If you need to take this apart.Never Seize all the linkages to keep it from happening again..
