I have a case 450b with a track adjuster that will not hold pressure, is this a major job? Track come off, is so how to remove?

I'm replacing a broken track idler spring. The manual calls for a "special" bolt to secure/compress the spring during removal. Unfortunately the manual doesn't give the specifications for the bolt. Anyone have a clue? Thanks Gary

Hi Bluedump,
I did not have to split my tracks to get to both of mine, but my tracks are worn very badly. I would certainly try to do it without splitting track. Not a bad job at all. Case dealer sold me the seals and I polished up the bores and put them in. Have been holding OK since. It's been a while, but I think I pushed idler as far forward as it would go, then loosened up adjuster housing and used grease to push rod out. That allowed me to remove housing and clean it up. Hope yours goes smoothly. Whatever you do, do not do what previous owner did to mine. Welded all sorts of steel onto track frame to keep idler pushed out. I spent more time cleaning up his mess than fixing it right.

Good luck,
David in SC

Same here, the guy I bought my 450 loader from welded the adjuster in place. I needed new adjusters and boughtt after-market parts from Wengers. Had to split the tracks though.
