I found a John Deere 198? 500C backhoe with bad engine that might go up for sale, what would it be worth? Everything else looks good, the engine was ran out of oil, then someone took the engine apart, decided it was too expensive to rebuild and put it back together (probably a box of "extra parts" someplace. Thanks, Ash

These backhoes aren't real good machines for the average homeowner buyer. They are heavy and bulky. If you are going to use it as a sewer machine , utility machine , or road tearout machine, it will fill the bill beautifully. They arent known for their " mudding " abilities. The engine could be an expensive fix due to the fact that the engine is used only on a few models. The 310-410 series is more poular, engines are more plentiful, easier to rebuild. Don't get me wrong, The 500-C is a fine machine but , harder to sell than the smaller models..There is a 500-C for sale close to me at 12,000 dollars and it is fine...It hasn't sold in a year..

500 C engine is basically a 3020 late serial #

engine. I have a head in the shop finished and

waiting for the customer to come get it.
