I was running my loader down my road in low gear when it felt like it went into neutral and started freewheeling I stopped at the bottom put it in reverse and it startd working fine. After running it for about 10 min it stopped moving forward or reverse it does not move. I would appreciate any advice I can get on possible problems and filter locations as i do not have a shop manual. thanks, Tim in PA.

Many things can cause the problem. The hydraulic-clutch (HL-R) trans. is driven by a dry clutch disk that can go bad. Most common problem on 450s is the linkage coming loose that connects the mechical clutch pedal to the trans. hydraulic valve. The adjuster is a small jam-nut (or sometimes double-nutted) on a threaded stud down by your feet. You pull a plug out for access. If the nut comes loose, you loose the trans. pressure and the crawler won't move.

Sounds like it might be low on trans fluid.I would check that first, the dipstick/fill hole is located under the seat. The trans has a screen/filter on the bottom right side of the trans housing,it should be a round cover with 3 bolts, when taking that cover off you will loose all fluid in the tranny. There should also be a spin on filter behind the front grill in front of the tranny cooler. There is also a filter in the hydraulic tank, this is a seperate hydro system from the tranny. Good luck, hope this helps

thanks for the response it was low on tranny fluid real low topped it off but didn't help, going to look at screen and filter maybe I killed the filters while running with low level. I hope it's only a filter because i am lost with out my yard toy. thanks tim

OUCH, that don't sound good, hopefully you might have sucked up some crud and stopped up a filter. Hope it didn't burn up the pump or something.Maybe someone else will know more about it.

the clutch adjustment nut is tight didn"t have timeto start checking filters yet but i removed the floor board and pressure washed the hole area .I was wondering about the two rubber plugs on bell housing is there an adjustment under them or are they just to inspect something, also what is that lever on top of the bell housing it did not no it was even there until after I pressure washed area . thanks again Tim from PA.

The adjuster that tends to come loose and give transmission trouble is NOT the one the clutch pedal itself. It is the other one, and has a 5/16" or 3/8" nut on it. It works in unison with the clutch pedal but it off to the right.

Under one of the rubber plugs your talking about is an adjustment rod for the clutch, when you press the clutch half way down it should stop the flow of hydraulics and stop the dozer,if you press the clutch farther it will disengage the mechanical clutch. The lever you found should be to engage/disengage the pto shaft.

Same thing happened to my brothers 450 and he tried everything that has been sugested still nothing then he unscrewed the filter in front of the radiator and found no pressure at all when (running)then took the top off the transmision found the steel suction pipe (which is about 1" round)had cracked from vibration.pulled it out and made a sleeve to cover crack then silver soldered it on then after much swearing was heard and skinned knucles put the pipe back the 450 lives once more( 90 cents for a new o ring+ some silver solder!)hope this helps. ps It is hard to put pipe back through the top of trans but can be done (engine is suposed to be removed then front of trans removed to get at pipe!
