I"m thinking of purchasing a 450-D w/ back-hoe
and would appreciate any input on the "Pros & Cons" of these machines. I see alot of info on
the 450-G but not much on the 450-D. Thanks in advance, Mike B.
PS. I believe the model year is a 1984.

Check the usual things on 450's up to the "E's"....check for cracked side frames where they bolt to the steering clutch housing-- cracks at the towers where the dozer frame attaches to the lift cylinders.. Check the dozer push-frame "C-frame" at the welds in the front of the frame...check the blade to see if the bottom has been worn past the cutting edge and into the gussets and approaching or into the edge bolt holes....check undercarriage for wear ....that can be expensive !!...check the transmission..it should stall the engine when standing on the brake pedal in high, low and reverse...put the gear shifter in neutral and shift between high low and reverse...the engine should lug down slightly to the same RPM in each speed...if it lugs down more in one speed (either high, low , or reverse,) then that would indicate a drag in one of the clutch packs. (labor intensive and expensive to repair) ...check the oil for coolant and the coolant for oil...look at the filler plug or breather for milky oil and in the radiator for oily film...any specific questions? the email address is up there.
