Backhoe adaptation

Hello all,

I have a friend who manufactures ag equipment and has every metal working toy around. He is willing to go in with me and get a backhoe attachment that we can both share for our 656 IH tractors. He is more than able to build a pair of subframe mounts for us, and I am thinking that we can get the best capabilities by getting the backhoe attachment off of a mid sized backhoe and adapting it for mounting on our tractors. My question is, do most factory installed backhoes have a pto pump located beneath the mounting setup, and can these be adapted for use with a standard tractor. Most of the hoes I have seen for 3pt are expensive and weak on digging ability. Anybody done anything like this, or have any thought on why this is a stupid idea?

Thanks,

Darren

I have a nice backhoe attachment. It came off a Long Ind . loader backhoe. It came without a bucket. No cracks or welds. Located in Ct. E-mail if interested.

I'm about to tackle a Case32 hoe to Case 380B industrial match. The lower mount will slide into 4" square tube loader frame rails that end behind axles, but the upper mounts are the trickiest to attach to tractor. Most of the stress when digging is on upper mounts and could get you killed if it fails when your operating it from hoe seat. You didn't mention if either tractor had loader. I'd think you'd need one for stability and front end protection when digging, not to mention moving/backfilling dirt you dig up. Using a loader pump, you can plumb the hoe in series with loader valve via power beyond sleeve.

Any chance of getting a few pics of that conversion when you get it put together, or better yet as you are putting it together?

Thanks,

Darren

By all means use a pto pump.. Usually the machines that use 3 point hydraulics for backhoe power are wimpy digging machines. All major manufacturers sell as an option a pto pump with a reservoir built into the base of the backhoe main body.
