I am looking to purchase a small crawler dozer. One that I"m looking at has LGP pyramid tracks and am unfamiliar with these. Will they work adequately in moderately heavy soils? There is not much rock in this area. Also this machine came from Japan as a used dozer... any advice there?

Sand pads is what I call them, guys around here have had pretty good luck welding grouser bars on them, that is if the rest of the U/C is in decent enough shape, some guys weld on each one then others skip every other one, guess it's personal preference but I've not heard of any final drive problems on either account resulting from the added traction.

Boog54;

Have owned a D3B with pyramidal tracks for about 3 years now. Mine is also a Japanese machine. First, I like the tracks. Working in New England and do have lots of rocks but I really don"t see an issue. Upside is when ground is wet, and I do have some "soft" areas especially in the spring, the machine "floats" real nice and will push just fine.

Regarding Japanese origin. I have no issues finding parts. Had to replace L clutch packing and reline brake band. Sent away for parts, got some from local CAT dealer, local shop relined brake band. All pretty reasonable.

So far machine is top notch. Runs great, burns no oil, no smoke, good power for the age.

Hope this helps!

THE PYRAMID PADS ARE TO BE USED MOST IN SWAMP OR OTHER SOFTY MATERIAL. I MIGHT BE ABLE TO FIX YOU UP WITH A SET TRACKS WITH PAD BUT THE PADS WILL NOT BE AS WIDE. IF I CAN HELP LET ME KNOW. 800-564-0383 I JUST RECIEVED TWO SETS. ONE WITH PADS & ONE WITHOUT. GOOD CONDITION. VIRGIL
