TS: Just a quick news item on the CAN CAR transplant: What a fine working machine with the new heart:) except for small details the kubota is running and machine moves a good as it did burning gas. actually got carried away and fixed the brakes also:)
Anyway it is a success, the winch and A-frame are off now, and getting ready to mount a loader and extend the orginal rear section out, for a small porter.
Actually looks loke a buyer is found for the old engine/A-frams and winch, what could get better?
Regards

Its great to hear that things are going well for you. Sounds like youve got another party interested in the Can-Car cult [hehe], maybe we should start our own web page Keep the shiny side up!

never a stupid question just an OLD question:
a CAN CAR is a machinery line of skidders made in cananda[ontario?] back in the early 60's.
Actually the one in discussion is a 1964, it was using a 172ci ford gas engine, 4 speed tranny, for/rev transfer case. high/low speed ranges.
Once the differentials were welded solid we have a true 4 wheel drive machine:) Anyway they are small compared to todays equipment ,1 cord capacity, when backpacking cordwood. this unit has been convereted to a kubota diesel, and much needed repairs/paint?? and is being lengthened into a small porter. Again a 1 cord unit with a loader added where the winch used to sit.
Pictures might happen someday, thanks for the interest hope i cleared up the confusion.
regards

How big and what kind of a loader did you put on the old skidder? I would like to see a picture. I have two old Garrettes. It sounds like it may be a good addition to one of them.

ok you two have convinced me, except a requirement to be on board vessel to collect a cheque is kind of inconvient:)
hopefully in sept i can post something for you.
We are putting a[at present] little PATU pulp loader on it. plans are to use the aux PTO to run the pump, simple steel work to extend the lodaer boom/and pieces to be usable on the orginal back end.
regards
