Hello Last spring I bought a 54 D6 . After some work on the mag ,a new condeser , it had very hot spark and was easy to start. I tried to start it the other day ( it sat for about 6 weeks)now it has weak spark . I replaced the points and put the old condenser back with no cange . can the coil go weak from sitting ?? Thanks Bryan

Brian,
Prolly not, unless it was poorly sealed. Usually OK after years of standing, unless continually wetted.
Has your mag got an impulse coupling? If so, is it working properly?
Loss of magnetism in the generator side could be a problem, but like as not just standing that long.
If at all damp, take it off and warm it gently and allow it to dry out, clean those points carefully and set the gap accurately.
You can test the condenser by connecting across a DVM on resistance scale - should appear as a short, initially, steadily rising to in excess of a mega-ohm. Mag may well have a safety gap inside the mag and you may be able to see if it is operational without the dist cap - it should spark to earth across the safety gap instead of overloading the high tension side of the coil.
Hope this helps. Regards, RAB
