I am considering buying a loader/backhoe in the spring or next fall. I know I am going to purchase a Case. My question is what is the biggest backhoe/loader that Case makes? I want to purchase an older used machine (so I can work on it myself) and am not sure how big the Case's get. Originally I wanted something under ten ton so I can float it myself but I think it's better to have a bigger machine than a convenient one, when it comes time to work anyways.

SmallTime nailed it.. Go with a smaller machine. Easier to get thru mud , tires are a little cheaper. Big machines are clunky trying to get into tight places.

My buddy has an old 780, I think thats as big as they get, its really a good size machine. Almost too big for some stuff. Its kinda slow and clunky but if its for your own tinkering on a farm or such it would be fine. I personally like the 590 models. I think you would get just as much done or more with the smaller machine just because its that much faster. 580's are nice too with the ex-hoe, thats what Ill be looking for when the time comes.
