Pulled the head off the d7 today to see why the lifters on cylinder # 4 were missing. The lifter guide holders were out of the block, seems the 2 bolts and fork holding the lifter base stripped out of the block and the lifter base has wore the block and the two bases have play to them.I am so bummed out, just bought this machine from a used equipment business about 20 hrs ago, which ran great till last week all of a sudden and had this bad news. The cat dealer said it had to have run this way for some time as they were badly worn.I know when you by used equip. you by as is.Do you guys think I should bring this to his attention as the cat dealer The service mechanic said to fix is going to cost more than the macinne is worth. Thanks, thanks for any help!

Dave if you get the used engine, hold on to your old one. There may be different parts on the one you buy and you will need to use the ones from your existing engine. Also, if you get into the bottom end of the one you are going to use the Ballancers will need to be timed when you put it back together.

Dave did you buy it from a Cat Dealer or a Used Equipment Dealer? Sounds like someone may have patched things up to unload it. If nothing is broken just worn the bores can be bored out and sleeved back to size. Was everything okay inside of the engine? Had the valves hit the piston top?

Bob,Bought it from a used dealer near us.The fork that holds the 2 sleves down stripped out and allowed the sleves to move.Cat dealer said they had to have been that way for some time.He also said it could be rebored after he talked to his spec person on it.Said it would cost much more that the machine is worth and would be a big job to fix.It did not do any damage to the head only a scuff on the cam,not too bad there. Dont think it was unloaded on me as the head was a problem getting free.Dave A

Don't know what to tell you to do Dave. Might make money on it by parting it out but that's a lot of work and all the parts might not sell right away. Later Bob
