I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 1967 955K TRACKLOADER.WHEN I USE IT FOR AN HOUR, THE CONVERTER TEMPERATURE GOES INTO THE RED.I CAN IDLE IT FOR 5 OR 10 MINUTES AND IT COOLS BACK INTO THE GREEN.THEN I USE FOR 20 OR 30 MINUTES AND IT IS IN THE RED AGAIN.THE RADATOR IS CLEAR AND THE ENGINE DOES NOT OVERHEAT.IS THERE A SEPERATE COOLER SOMEWHERE ELSE? THE TRANS FLUID IS CLEAN.ANY IDEAS? THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

Mark, take the LH side cover off and follow the Tarns/TC cooler lines up to the front. There should be a small cooler core beside the rad. Look for a castiron block joining these lines. If there is one feel the cooler lines before and after this block when it has over heated. If you find both lines too hot to touch up to the block and only one hot after it the is a pressure and temp sensitive bypass valve in the block that needs replacing. If both lines are hot all the way through the valve is good and you should pull the pump off and look at the inside of it. Maybe you better Email Me this could get involved.

I've got more experience with Deere, but heres my 2 cents worth. To me it sounds like the transmission might be slipping slightly , causing excessive heat. Find a tech manual to see where the pressure tap is to check clutchpack pressures. There is also a possibility that the cooler relief valve might be stuck in the closed position. When you have an oriface or small leak, pressure oil going past the obstruction will heat up. all machines have these valves..good Luck
