The drive train on my mid 80's Case 1835B gas Uniloader has just started acting up. The symptoms are only on the left side and in the forward direction. At an idle, the wheels on the left side will not go forward, but will go in reverse, the right side will go both ways. At full throttle, when the left lever is inched forward, the wheels will either not move or move real slow for a few seconds, and then they will lurch forward, after which things seem to work fine for a while until I stop or change directions, and then the whole process may start all over agian. The machine will do it when the oil is hot or cold, and the syptoms do not change with operating tempature. I talked to a couple of hydro shops, and one suggested swapping the relief valves to see if the problem showed up some where else - I tryed that and it didn't work. I am assuming the fact that the problem is only on one side, and in one direction would be a big clue to someone smarter than me. I was hoping someone out there may have some ideas - I really don't want to take the machine to the hydro shop for fear the bill will exceed the value of the skid steer.

I have the same machine with a diesel engine and when I bought it the right side had very little power. You had to push the control all the way to get it to move. It did this in both directions.
You could have a problem that is simple to fix but I dout it. I found out this stuff is very expensive to replace and the recommended repair is to pull the Hyd stat pumps and wheel motors and have them rebuilt at the same time. The theory is since it all runs in the same fluid and is connected then any metal particles goes thru the whole system and trashes everything. Skid steers have very elaborite filter systems but all these items are connected with lots of lines running everywhere. They are hard to get at on these older machines since the top does not fold back like newer machines. I had a hard time just getting the motor out on one side, The lines are very tight and you will need crows feet to get the fittings loose To rebuild the entire system will cost anywhere from $5,000 to $8.000. That is more than your machine is worth. What I did was pull the wheel motor on that side and found it worn out so I replaced the geroter assy at a cost of $750.(Cases price)I tried everywhere to find it but Case had a lock on it. That helped a lot, but now I have power at the beginning of the control arm movement. In other words, I have about half the speed on the right side as I do on the Left side. This is something I have lived with for over 500 hours of operation. The machine has plenty of power on both sides at the low end, it just wont go as fast on the right side, I just back off on the left control untill it evens out in speed. I was afraid this would get worse as the hours started piling up but like I said, its gone over 500 hrs with no change in operation. Im sure I have pump wear but as long as it operats this well Im going to run it. I have to admit, it puzzles me why yours is having trouble in only one direction. You said there is no noise but you might take the covers off the drive chains on that side(the plastic lids with the single bolt in the center) and look at the chains and sprokets to make sure they are not worn out. Also ck the sproket mount and make sure the nut is tight and the cotter pin is still in place on the nut. You could also get the machine up on blocks so you could operate the drive controls and turn the wheels and have someone listen down by the wheels for any noises. These things are so loud its hard to hear everything going on. Hope this helps some.
