I am looking at a 977I to purchase off Ebay. The serial number is 11k4939. Would someone please tell me what year this is? Says it has a 3306 engine, what horsepower is this?

Thanks, Tom

The 977L was a seemingly good performer, I spent quite a bit of time on one, one thing to remember though is that the track frames are fixed, so they don't osicillate like a track type tractor fit with a dozer, which means the track frames don't contour to uneven ground, they are fixed for stability, like loading trucks. Not the best for grading, but I used to do a decent job with ours. They are not bad for clearing and grubbing, but anytime you work in the woods be very careful, trees can be very dangerous, even brush can find it's way through a brush cage.

Might want to have the undercarriage measured up to see how much it is worn, and what kind of hours it may have left, expensive item to replace, more than a machine is worth. Hopefully it's been maintained well otherwise, Bob mentioned some good things to check as well. Best of Luck !

Thank you very much for the comments Billy. I was not aware of the track frames being fixed.

I appreciate what you are saying about trees. You never know where they will go. You can have a good idea but lots of things come in to play.

Tom it would be a 977L they switched from a K to L at serial# 11K39## in 72 or 3. That one would likely be a 73 or 4 machine. Have to look up HP maybe around 170.

Wow, Bob what a quick answer. I really appreciated it. I am definitely a novice around this type of machinery. I have used a few, but now I have some land I need to clear and earth I need to move.

They are a good machine to do that for you Tom. Just make sure the final drives are full of oil, not leaking at the sprockets and the sprocket hub bearings are good. Check them by prying on the sprocket sideways. They shouldn't move, if they do try again with less force to make sure you where not flexing the sprocket.
