What is the worst thing you can do to the tracks on a crawler? It seems to me that holding the brakes on one track and pivoting on it causes a lot of side pressure on everything. If there is any wear in the chain, idler, or sprocket this allows the whole undercarriage to shift and causes more side wear on the idler and sprocket teeth. This is even worsened if on a side hill where you pivote on the up-hill track so all the thrust and weight is on the down hill track. What is the best way to help the undercarriage out, when you need to operate this way. Tightening the track more than recommended??? Or do you just put up with the wear, because it can be expensive!!!!! thanks any suggestions would be appreciated.....

I was always told to try and avoid using the brakes as much as possible. Also to try and turn on each track evenly. As in to not always turn left. My machines undercarriage is starting to die so i'm going to run it to total destruction before I replace it.

And with the Case 310s and
350s all the turning is accomplished
by holding one brake. It's a very simple
method. Maybe that's why it's obsolete.

first on a 450 case you do not use the brakes for all your turning they are for emergency use or close quarters only for all stearing you use the little hand levers.

Yes I know that but close up work is what we are talking about where you need to turn and have no room to run one track faster than the other or just disengage one track. I have a lot of hours running this machine and have owned it for almost 6years but on a side hill or in soft material where you need to turn short the track break is the only way to do it, besides what else are the individual track breaks used for?? I try to avoid using the track break as much as possible, because of the pressure it puts on the undercarriage, I just was wondering if someone had a solution to keep from this increased wear. tks
