Hello all, I have an old case 310 CK, I have rebuilt all the cylinders, but, still have trouble with the dipper and bucket leaking down. A fellow told me it may be an internal leak in the valves. What does this mean. After looking at the books , all I see is two o rings that seal the top and bottom of the valve, Am I missing something??! Thanks

The O-rings usually just prevent leakage outsie the valve. The spools can wear and leak by from use, and the whole valve would require replacement. The most common cause is wear or swelling of the bore of the cylinders themselves. You can measure swelling with an outside micrometer, but you would have to open them again to measure wear. If your packing is good and they leak (slowly) then the fix is expensive.

I don't know anything about Case as such but the circuits will have port/line relief valves in them to protect the cyl's, hoses and machine from external forces. They may be leaking or the valve body could be worn or cracked. THe best way to check a valve body is with a hyd hand pump that can develope a lot of pressure. Take the complete valve out, hook the pump to each cyl port one at a time and pump up 1000 psi. You will see oil leaking out if there is a problem. You can also adjust the port relief valves this way. The oil is held in the cyl by the precise fit of the spool to the valve body, wear on these parts will cause drift too.
