Hi,I am having some trouble with my 310B Deere Backhoe, when using the front bucket it shudders or shakes sometimes like it is starving for fluid,it usually quits doing that after it is warmed up real good. Also sometimes it sounds like the pump is making a squeeling sound like it is starved for fluid for a few seconds and then it quiets down. All filters and hydro fluid have less than 300hrs,fluid levels are ok.Anyone have any clue to what this could be? Thanks,Rick

One thing I almost forgot. With the guage in the reverser control valve, remove the floorboards around the clutch pedal and see if the floorboards are keeping the pedal from coming up all the way, causing a pressure problem. The roll pins and groove pin on the reverser clutch shaft, that runs across the front of the reverser housing have been known to cause a pressure problem too.. BUT these things will not have a fluxuating guage. These will have a steady guage reading.. Reverser pressure should be approx. 135 lbs when ti's working right..

Yep, I think so.. Put a guage [200 psi ] into transmission test port [ back cover, small plug faces down on reverser control valve]. start machine with gear shift in neutral or park. Run engine at idle speed , notice reading on gauge. Speed up engine rpm to 3/4 throttle. Does pressure reading fluxuate a lot with rpm increase. It shouldn't. But, if it does. You probably have a tiny piece of junk stuck in the filter relief valve, causing transmission oil to go back to sump instead of being directed to the hydraulic pump. If you lay under the machine , you will notice 2 filter cans. The one that stands straight upright needs to come off. There is a plug on the side of the transmission case just up from the filter you removed. Remove that plug. If you look up into the filter cavity, you will see a spool valve. That spool contains the filter relief valve. The valve can be pushed out of it's bore with a screwdriver ,out the plug hole. Once it's out, very carefully check the small poppit inside the valve spool. There will usually be a piece of debris holding the valve partially open..Good Luck. Let us know if you have any luck. There are several other places that will cause chatter in hydraulics , but I've found this is a good place to start with your symptoms..

I've got a JD 400 TLB....was wondering if the relief valve you're talking about is the same on the 400?? My backhoe acts kind of like the one this guy is describing. Thanks

JD400..... There are a few other things to look at. Start with the filter relief valve if tests prove it's the problem. If not, maybe the oriface is stuck in the pressure control valve. The shims get beat out and cause the oriface valve to stick in the bore of the pressure control valve...
