The JD500 were built from '65 to '71. Here is a link that might help you some:

I don't think you have a 500.. They weren't made in'63, unless someone installed an early 3010 engine in it.I don't know if 3010 was built in '63. Back then they made an animal called a 2010 . 500-A was made in late 60's . If the machine is a power shift there will be a Forward , Neutral , Reverse lever to the left of the steering wheel . An 8 speed shifter with neutral and park on the right side of dash. There will be a clutch disconnect lever under the left edge of the dashboard . Looking under the machine you will be able to see a powershift control valve with 2 control cables attached to it. On the other side there is a valve with B1,B2,C1,C2,C3 cast into the cover , showing where to check pressures for troubleshooting transmission problems..

Sorry , Brain fart!!! There is one cable on linkage that goes to upper part of center section in front of rt. final drive. There is linkage that goes to control valve. Not as I said before about 2 cables. The cable applies the park gear, and the linkage moves the gear ranges in the power shift transmission. It could possibly have a collar shift transmission, which is a manual transmission..
