j.d. 350 final drive

i am rebuilding both final drives on crawler the bull gears fit loose to the axels,but splines dont show wear is this normal with this machine? also when assembeled the bull gear has some side movement should an additional shim be added to tighten up? or isnt it that fussy? service manual dosnt comment on that. thanks for all help

I've built a few.. Some gears were on the loose side.. As long as it doesn't move far enough to wear into case. It should have the proper preload to ensure long life of components. I wouldn't shim it unless contact with case occurs.
