A customer has a 450 crawler/loader, the Torque converter has the fiber ring gear on it. Now the next version of this style torque converter the fiber ring was replaced by a bolt on ring. The last version was a torque converted with flex plates. My question is since the pilot hub is the same on the torque converter for all three series machines, has anyone ever tried to replace the cup style flywheel used with the fiber ring/bolt on ring , with the newer flex plate style flywheel and then eliminate the fiber ring and install flex plates?

Case had a service bulletin showing how to convert the fiber gear drive to a flex plate. That was back in the late 60's. It said to do pretty much the same thing you have in mind.
