Evaluating a International TD7-E

I’m looking at a TD7-E that I can have for 1 week to try before I buy it. The machine has a power shift transmission that has some issues. The tracks when under heavy load once in a while stop. If the blade is raised it will start up again. If you try to steer either side while pushing the machine stops unless only ½ the blade is loaded and your turning that way. Once the lever is released the machine starts up again. Most of the time the tracks spin under load, but almost no matter what it does not want to steer with a load. When the machine is driving w/out a load everything works fine. Also 3rd gear does not work at all either direction. This has been the case for at least 3 years. At least the 2 previous owners used the machine very sporadically (about 3 times a year). The last owner had the machine for 3 years and put only 30 hours on it. The hydraulics also don’t work very well unless the throttle is al least ½ open. The power angle works very slow even under full throttle unless I pull back on the blade control to the point the blade wants to raise, the angle works very well. This is the 1st TD I have run, all my experience is with Cat, Case, & Deere. None of the smaller machines I have run were power shift.

Any ideas on the cause of these problems? How much will it cost to repair? Any problems I should look for specific to TD dozers?

Thanks for any and all input.

I Have Two TD-7E Dozers. Sounds Like You'll Need Some Expensive Parts To Get It Up To Snuff, Such As Probable Pumps, Clutch Brakes, Turning Discs, Etc. If You Have Changed The Filters,Then You May Be In For A Major ReHaul. I Need Some Spare Parts Though If Its For Sale.

Unless the owner is going to give it to you, run away from it.Needs trans and converter work, hydraulic work, steering clutch work, and probably alot more once you use it and look at it alot closer.Unless you are mechanically able, have the tools and capability to remove the transmission, steering clutches, repack cylinders, stay away from it unless you have REAL deep pockets!
