case 450 vs deere 455 (Probably 1980s)

I have been shopping for a track loader for about a year and with many questions to this site I had pretty much decided that a case 450 met my needs.

Recently I have come across a 1980s Deere 455 for around CAN$10,000 and think that this is a heck of a deal. The owner was an operator and used the machine himself. He rebuilt the engine and then came down with an illness and has not used it much since. It has been stored in his garage.

I have not looked at the 455, but compared to the case I am thinking that it is generally newer and a little more powerful. Is that a correct assumption?

Any general problems with the early 455s

Thanks for any help

Doug,

I am not extremely familiar with either machine, and own a Case 350 myself. But since no one has chimed in so far, I thought I would. From what I have gathered from my research, is that the Case 450 is a size smaller than the JD 455. The Case 450 is comparable to the JD 350. The JD 555 is probably comparable to a Case 850, maybe a bit larger. I would guess the JD 455 to be about a 65 - 70 HP machine and the Case 450 to be about 50 HP. Hope this helps.

Case 450's are 50 plus hp machines, and deere 350's are 35 to 40 hp machines.

My Case 450 will easily out push a deere 350, as it should.

Robert
