I hope everyone is just owners of personal loaders and dozers just like me. So for having a dozer on the farm, what would be a good way to keep the stainless steel cylinders from rusting on my dozer arms. Being they are extended for the blade to be resting on the ground. You see, I dont use my dozer everyday like a contractor. Looking for ideas. Thanks
Brent

best thing to use on it is the same stuff you use in it, Hydraulic fluid, I wipe mine down with Hydraulic fluid when I have to park it for a while, usually they leak a lil fluid anyway so rust isnt a problem haha ,,,, bUt anyway, I have a old split sweat sock soaked in oil that I lay over it as well

No matter how big a garage you build, it'll never be big enough. I too have machines that set outside for LOOOONG periods of time. Locally I use/buy a form of Never Sieze in a spray can. I'm sure the old brush on stuff would work but would take longer. Remember to do the tops/bottoms/all around. Damage comes from the metal sweating too. With the neversieze I wipe it off with a solvent & wipe on some oil before I retract the cylinder. Have had GREAT luck to date....

To set the record straight, they are not stainless steel, they are chromed steel. If they were stainless I doubt you would be having a rust problem. Agree to keep them coated with something, however you may not be able to prevent the rust. If the rods were chromed and ther was ANY surface rust that was not removed before being chromed, it will work it`s way through from the inside out. Don`t mean to bring bad news, just the truth.

There is no rust as of yet. I was just trying to prevent any rust from showing up. I didnt know if people coated them with grease while not in use, or cover them with an oily rag. The dozer is not inside, but is under a overhang attached to my pole barn. Brent

Cover it? :)

Another option is to spray LPS on the cylinders
when you park the dozer.

As for me, all my equipment is either covered
or sheltered.
