I"m looking at buying a 550C, I"m not that familiar with them. Runs and pushes good, under carrage is about 85%. My question is what is the HP, approximate year, average price and weight of this dozer.
JD 550C
Serial# 346772T
Has 6 way blade.
He"s asking $15,000- is this a decent price??
Thanks

I was referring to a "550c" parts book !! I'm sure your 550 parts book is well worn...initially was trying to save some aggrevation to the person asking the question.

There was never a "550C" built ...There were 550-550A's and 550B's They had twin-disc 3 speed powershift transmissions...then they became 550G's with a totally different 4 speed transmission, which are more desireable etc.etc... If you arent familiar with what to be leary of in a straight 550 which is what this sounds like...then I'd pass... They can be your worst nightmare and moneypit. I'm sure there are some good ones still left out there ...but usually they're not for sale !...

The serial plate had 550C on it. And if you search the net there are plenty of "C" model dozers for sale.

The US ARMY seems to think the JD550C exists, so much so they have sent out service bullletins on them. Also the link at the bottom is from a Cat dealer who has one he is selling..or is he wrong too? Like I said, I'm not an expert on JD Dozers, but it seems to me your mistaken.
