I am putting together a straight 450 jd loader that has beem sitting a long time. from what I have read on here, the steering clutches are probaby stuck. The fuel tank and side boxes are off so I pulled the large covers off the clutch housings to get a look. Is there a way to check them without completely pulling the clutches out? The right side clutch assy will move sideways about one and a half inches with a prybar, does this mean something is loose or broken? The left side will not move. I tried to move the linkage as much as I could with a large pipe wrench and it seems to be doing what its suppose to do. any help would be appreciated. this site has already been a big help in other matters. Im also looking for some misc parts for a straight 450 loader. If anyone knows about any parts machines please email me. Ive already spent more than I wanted to buying from a boneyard.

Try ; Paint Valley Equipment , Millersburg , Ohio I've had good luck getting parts from them. If any of you had to buy engine frame rails from Deere lately , you spent about $ 960.00 each. I bought 2 years ago from Paint Valley and spent around $ 300.00 each.. They have them fabricated and THEY FIT....Seat cushions , clutch parts , undercarriage parts , u name it.... 330-674-0081

What is your e-mail address. I have to re-do the right steering clutch"s on my 450. Did them once and they worked alright for about a month then the right side started to slip (not pull lke the left side). Going to pull it apart one more time and prbably replace all the fiber disc"s instead of re-using the good ones like one of the old loggers told me to do the first time. Advise to the man re-doing his steer clutch"s, do it right the first time it"s a lot of work to re-do.

Think of it this way...wouldn't you want to know for sure that the steering clutches are problem free before you go to the effort to reassemble everything ?? I would disassemble them and clean/repair as needed...You may not even need many or any parts...a good cleaning (rust removal) is all that may be needed...although you may want to replace the seals on the bearing quills on either side of the transmission case...apply a little "Nevr-Seez" to everything that moves... might be easier than kicking yourself later if it malfunctioned...
