I"m looking for a small crawler type crane to purchase. There were a few manufactuers of this type, but the two that fit my needs most closely are the Bucyrus Erie 10b, and the Northwest 6. I have a pond (small lake) that I"m raising Rainbow Trout in, and I"m having problems with Blue Heron hunting and stabbing them. I need a machine to clamshell the banks steeper. Herons will not go into water over about 18"deep. I"m located in the Puget sound area of Washington, and am looking to buy something close. Oregon or Idaho would work. Anybody know of anything in my area? Thnx, M.Guy

Sounds like you are looking for a drag line ? No reason you couldn't rent an excavator with the proper bucket to dig in water.Probably faster and cheaper than keeping an old machine going. My uncle has a bunch of these old machines from his gravel pit in Ohio.

Give the guys at Seattle Tractor out there in Tukwilla, WA a call, they might know where something close to you is that's in runnable shape. If your looking for a 10B you might try doing a search on Ebay for past auctions. I remember seeing a 10B BE on there a month or so back that was out West somewhere. I do know it needed some work if that's now an issue. If I remember correctly it had a pull shovel on it but also a boom, and a clam bucket and some other stuff to go with it. As far as the NW machines a Northwest #6 is ALOT larger than say a 10B BE is. Heck it's a good bit larger physically than even a 25B. In the NW line you ought to be looking for something like say a 25 or a 28D (which is basically an air operated 25), or even a 41. Either of those three will fall in pretty much the samecatagory as say a 22 or 25 BE. The 28D's are a bit scarce, at least around here, but their a nice size machine if you can find one and with the air controls their just that much better... . Either of the three will be also much smaller than the #6 which was large enough that it shared alot of the same features and parts with the 80D and 95 machines including a 6 cylinder Murphy instead of the 4 cylinders in the smaller machines..... Here's a link to Seattle Tractors site.....You also might want to try looking at the HCEA web site. There's always stuff on there for sale too..... If you want a good deal and don't mind having one hauled from the East Coast I know a guy up in VA that has both a BE and a NW for sale for a really good price with alot of buckets and other goodies to go with them. I've seen the pics and they both look nice, and he takes pride in his work and their both in good mechanical shape also. Let me know and I'll hook ya'll up. My email is Nota55Nomad@AOL.com. Good luck.
