The track cyl on my 955 keeps backing off making my track go loose. I dont have the manual for the machine yet. I need some direction about how to remove this cyl. It has a large spring in line with it and I dont know if this needs to somehow be compressed to get the cylinder off. Any help will be appreciated.

ajk thanks very much for that bit of info as I have to do my 955k,I did not know about the types of tracks and would have driven a pin out if you had not pointed it out i'v got the S&L tracks sure makes splitting them easy.

Ollie, when you put them back together clean the serrated joint well and torque the bolts all to 220 Lb Ft, mark the bolts and pads and then turn each bolt 1/3 turn tighter.( 2 Flats)

Adjuster in reply to Jay White, 11-07-2005 16:57:09

Below is a scan from the book of the hydraulic adjuster, its not a bad job once the track is split,if you don"t know what type tracks you have you need to know,if you have SALT type tracks you find the link that splits (its a solid link)and just remove the 4 pad bolts to split the track,SALT tracks have a dimple in the centre of every pin the other type has no dimple in the pins except the one thats the master link, that pin will have to be driven out to break the track.

Jay, you need to split the track, unbolt the cyl flange from the idler extension flange (4 bolts). Push the idler ahead and then push the cyl back into the pilot towards the spring as far as you can. Then clean away the grease and grab the piston nose with a pair of channel locks and pull it out. If the seal doesn't look too bad you may have a problem with the bore of the cylinder. To get it out you need to unbolt the front track frame mount at the hard bar and the inner rear mount and lift the machine up a bit to get the cyl out. I am sure it will not clear the hard bar with everything together. Be careful around the big recoil spring, make sure the front pilot is held down by the stops. If it isn't and it breaks loose it can hurt or kill you.
