Bobcat Hydraulics

I just got a Bobcat 743. Seems to be in good condition except that the bucket tilt cylinder does not want to hold the bucket. It wants to slowly tilt the bucket even when the bucket is empty. I have not checked if it happens when the Bobcat is shut off, but it happens when it is running. My question is: How do I easily isolate the problem - pump/valve/hydraulic ram? I would rather not tear into the hydraulics if it is only the ram, but then I don't want to rebuild the ram if it is the valve. Is there an easy way to check this out?
If the ram needs to be rebuilt, is this an easy do it yourself job once I have the kit, or should I have a good shop do it?

Thanks

Most likely is the cylinder, you could do a cylinder leakage test to verify. Remember safety, do this while the bucket is resting on the ground also make some sort of provisions to prevent oil being blown on you if you do this test. Remove one hose from cylinder start machine and pressurize the hose that remains on the cylinder and see how much oil escapes out of the fitting where you removed the hose, the cylinder will need to be at the end of its stroke however, so you may get alot of oil (depends on which hose you take off) til the cylinder strokes out. Little is normal, also look closely at the rod these machines were bad about bending the cyl. rod when that happens the piston chews on the side of the cylinder and tears up the cylinder barrell and piston.

My guess would be that the ram is the problem. Almost can't be the pump because the lift is working right?? Cylinders aren't hard to rebuild but I prefer to let other/shops do it because its easy to nick a seal and then your out a kit. If a shop nicks a seal then its there problem.
