How difficult is it to replace clutches?

I am looking at a 450 loader that is supposidly in great shape, except it does not move. I was told that the steering clutches are shot, but other than that its great. The price is very good if that is all there is to it.

If I do it myself, what can I expect to pay for replacing both clutches?

Any advice?

Thanks/Doug

Unless you are getting it very cheap dont buy it. I am currently in the middle of one of these so called bargains. Like Roy said, you just dont know what to expect since you can not operate the machine. I guess thats why There are so many in the bone yards, they get them cheap because the machine is torn apart and the seller can not get someone take their word on the over all condition. That being said, if you pass, let me know where it is. ( a fool never learns) but it sounds like you are in Canada and that is way to far from Kentucky to go look at parts machines.

It's tough to buy a machine that won't move just on someones say so. What if the transmission is out too? 450's bring good money today only because of the price of a new one is so high. But , on the other hand , how much can you afford to put into a machine you can't run. OK there's a top cover over the ring gear. On that machine you can pull the cover off and see the ring gear. If the ring gear turns and nothing to the outside does, chances the steering clutches are shot. Buyer beware....Get it cheap..... ..
