I find that hard to believe - are you sure they know what they are doing? I've pulled apart an awful lot of Deere diesels and never seen one yet as bad as you describe. Of course, the machines are getting older all the time - but again, I've never seen the bottom corrode so bad a block is scrapped. If you have an early 450 that originally had single o-ring sleeves - and you had to put the same single o-ring sleeves back in - well then maybe I could understand. But, Deere did away with the single o-ring sleeves and a single o-ring block is updated by using a sleeve kit where the new sleeves use three sealing rings each. This would eliminate any concern about the original single square-cut sealing ring.

Hi Bruce,
Make sure when you finally get a new block installed that you use some kind of coolant conditioner!!! I cannot believe that the manufacturers do not stress this in the manuals more! MANY wet sleeve diesel engines are destroyed every year because of cavitation erosion like you experienced.

I've got a friend that has a 4 cylinder Deere engine from an air compressor. Let me get in touch with him about price. I understand it ran well. In Northeastern Ohio, midway between Erie Pa. and Cleveland Oh.
