I'm looking for a backhoe...prefer john deere but would consider a case. I would like to spend about 10-12,000 for occasional use on the farm and was wondering what models would give me the best performance for that price range. thanks.

I have a Case 580 Super K, Cab,4 wheel drive and extendahoe. It will cost you arouund $25000.00 but it is a great machine. You will not get much for $10000.00

I have a john deere hoe and my swing cylinder went loose. Real sloppy. My neighbour (who's been in the construction business for over 35 years) has a jd backhoe and his swing cylinder is the same way. He figures backhoes are pretty much all the same (kinda makes sense to me). Four wheel drive is best if you plan on charging banks or stockpiles and loading trucks. Also helps when snowplowing. Perhaps you should evaluate how you plan on using the machine (ditching/loading trucks/pulling stumps/etc.), how much money you can spare for parts, if you have to float it often, or if the machine will make you money. Than work from there. Just my two cents. Best of luck.

I'm gonna throw out something REALLY controversial... $10K range/farm use.... I love my Dynahoe 190-4.. TRUE.. Parts can be trying and pricey, TRUE they are large lumbering slow moving rear steer bemoths @ 10 ton BUT.... When you find a decent one, they dig like an excavator ( 19 foot hole..) push like a dozer and load like a payloader.. One in decent shape used correcetly is nearly indestructable & the ole screaming Detriot starts easy in the cold... Given, if I were a contractor hauling it from job to job planning on making a living off of it I'd think differently... They are quite common in the Boston and NY City area... The larger older cities used them for deep watermain work on city strets. Dynahoe sells under several versons also Petibone comes to mind & I can't at the moment think of the 2 other names..OptiHoe maybe? then the company who bought Dynahoe was making them under their own name for a while. Can't recall who that was. But for PURE DIGGING BANG for the buck, these machines are animals...

I have a 190E and your right the machine is an animal to work with. I recently developed a problem with the hydraulics, I keep blowing the return hose. Can you give me any suggestion on what to look for?

I just got a Ford 555B model and I have not really tried it out yet. I have some things to tighten up and kinda go over it. I have always been a JD man but Ford has the strongest hyd. specs. and have always heard how strong they are. I can tell you something else so far some of the parts I've priced are far cheaper to a little cheaper than the Deere's. This one blew me away. Backhoe boom cyl. packing from Ford $45.00 checked on one for a 310,410 Deere $150.00

Cat makes a good product BUT in my experience, parts for Cats (from the dealer) are way more expensive. You can't go wrong with a JD 210 or 310 or a Case 580 though. 4X4 is nice but hey we used 2 wheel drives for years right? :)

In that price range that is a good question. Remember it will be a older machine so consider what dealers are in your area to support it, you will need parts. Here in the northeast Cat seems to have an excellent parts system John Deere a close second. Case can do a good job so can Ford and Massey. I own a John Deere mostly because the dealer is close and that makes getting parts easy. Hope this helps. Chuck

Has anyone had a problem with a control valve on a Case 580M? Won't hold, fluid leaks back past the check valve.
