Have little knowledge about crawlers but.trying to help a friend out. Friends son has recently become virtual parapalegic,w/no hope of recovery..Looking at distress sale of working Cat he owns toward medical/living expenses as he does not qualify for SS disability.
Have not seen the beast, but said to be an older, though not ancient Cat D7,with large 12-14'? foot dozer,ROPS w/canopy,wide 24"? pads, new radiator, pony start(good),undercarriage/tracks in decent shape.Has some kind of "hydraulic" track tensioners, instead of older style threaded set-up.Supposedly needs"detachable" drop deck trailer to transport???? Owner obtained this Cat as payment toward a debt settlement a few yrs back, has only been used lightly since then, but seems to be fully functional/dependable.

Hey Joe, sorry to hear about your friends son. It's a shame in this country when a hard working individual gets seriously injured and they are forced to sell off possessions, etc because the gov. won't offer them the same assistance they so freely give out to lazy bums...but that's a discussion for another board... On the D7 your looking at, here are a few specs for you based on the different serial number prefixes so you'll know a little more what your looking at. I'll start with the first one made and stop around the time they stopped putting poneys on them. I'll list them: designation/prefix/year/HP/weight/transmision type (DD-direct drive or PS-powershift) D7/3T/54-55/108/25,925/DD D7C/17A/55-59/128/26,355/DD D7D/17A/59-61/140/26,555/DD D7E/47A/61-68/160/32,590/DD D7E/48A/61-66/160/32,590/PS D7E/47A/66-69/180/33,500/DD D7E48A/66-69/180/34,000/PS D7F/94N/69-74/180/32,400/PS D7F/93N/69074/180/32,400/DD Hope this info helps you some.

First, it is very sad to hear the news of this situation and the pretenses that have forced sale of the equipment.

The best thing to do is find the serial number of the tractor and get back to us here, you can find it on the left rear above the final drive housing, and I think on the left side of the engine block, closer to operator's seat, sounds like a 17A or later series, if in working condition, it would be a good machine, especially if it has good tracks and related components. There are a lot of resources for the old Cat's, older ones still maintain quite a bit of popularity.
