I have a JCB Backhoe and I was looking for a place to plug it in for the cold weather, when I looked there was no place to be found. I thought that all Diesels had to be plugged in at winter time? Is there any place I could put one with little trouble?

I have a '96 JCB backhoe and last year bought a freeze plug heater insert but have not installed it. I hear it is a very tight fit and now I am thinking of not installing it and sending it back. I think the rad heater idea is maybe better as I have that setup on my Universal 445 and it works OK.

Install an inline coolant heater in the lower radiator hose. It made a world of difference on my old Fordson last winter. A buddy of mine has a coolant heater setup on his JCB backhoe that circulates the coolant in addition to heating it. Way more expensive though than a simple inline heater like I have.

Clover12,
Tell everybody what engine and someone may be able to help. I believe JCB have used various engine manufacturers over the years.

JCB stopped using that engine in 1979,as I am in the UK the weather here does not call for block heaters,I cannot recall if there was a provision made for them, anytime we had a severe freeze that engine was the most reliable to start, always push the stop control back in when you stop the engine, put the throttle on full and press the cold start button on the pump, you are now leaving the machine in the start mode should the rack decide to stick over night, antifreeze the engine and have a good battery in it and it will start on two turns.

Looking at your other post above I think you now have a rotary pump,it won't have a cold start button, but the other two about the stop been returned and the throttle open apply.
