I need help changing all of he fluids in my Cat D7 pony start. Here are my questions.

1) Does the pony drain out of a long hortizontal bolt in front of the pony? When I took it out the oil drained out. If not where is the drain plug? How much non detergent 30 weight goes back in???

2) What about the clutch and gear box behind the pony??? How many compartments are there to check or are these gearcases one unit? How are they drained? There looks to be a dip stick pipe on one case. What oil goes in these and what quanities?

3) How much goes in the big engine? How are the oil filters changed? Looks like you screw off the "cans" like a Farmall M or H.

4) How is the oil clutch drained and how much goes back in?? Use 30 weight non detergent here??

5) How is the transmission drained? How much goes back in and what type of oil should be used?

6) This has a booster on either the brakes or steering clutches? Where does this oil pressure come from???

7) What about gear boxes on the cable unit?

8) I think I understand the final drives.

9) Anything else??

Thanks

Andy, use the same oil in the starting engine as the main emgine if you like. The flywheel clutch should have TDTO4 Cat oil or equivelant because it is a clutch. You could use TDTO4 30 or 50 in the trans and bevelgear and 30 or engine oil in the steering booster box. The steering booster has a pump inside that runs off of the trans top shaft. Use 50 in the final drives. They used to use series 3 oil in everything but newer oils are more slippery for longer engine life and you need a trans/TDTO oil for anyting with a clutch now.
