JD310A FRONT HYD PUMP QUESTION

Hello, I have a 310A that spun the splined coupling to the front hydraulic pump. I'm thinking that this was caused by the clamping bolts not being tight enough. The splines are gone on the coupling and OK on the pump. After tearing it down today, I tried to rotate the pump with a pair of channel locks and found it wouldn't turn very much. I expected it to turn, maybe not easy, but smoothly. Can someone give me an idea if the pump should turn"by hand" or does it require the force of the engine to make it rotate? Also, if the pump is bad, does anyone know if it is possible to have the pump rebuilt and where? Thanks for your input!

These pumps are stiff by design. If it was working ok before splines went away , it's probably alright. Use neverseize on the splines when you replace that pump drive . Torque the clamping bolts to 35 ft.lbs. [ 3/8" bolt ]..
