I am looking at an ac hd3 dozer in good shape to buy. A friend says they are hard to find parts for. Is this a problem or are there some good parts places for these crawlers. Thanks.

The HD3 was built on the D15 ag. tractor platform, so they share a lot of drivetrain and engine parts. There was an earlier HD3 that was totally different made in the 40s that used a Detroit 2-71 engine, but those are extremely rare. I've got an H3, an HD4, and a couple of HD6s - and I've had no trouble getting parts for any of them. H3/HD3 have D15 engines, whereas the HD4 has a 200 c.i. engine and the HD6s have Buda 344 c.i. engines. AGCO sells many new parts (newly manufactured), and new-old-stock (still in the Allis Chalmers boxes), and there are many places selling used parts. H3/HD3, H4/HD4, and the 650 series all have the same basic undercarriages. Last rollers I bought were aftermarket Bercos - but they might stop making them soon. So, I guess my point is - I don't have any more trouble finding parts for my ACs than I do anything else of that age. I've got several Deere crawlers from the 50s an 60s - and getting parts for them isn't much different. The Deeres are more common, but that also means there is more demand for their used parts. So, I think it all evens out.
