I know of an old Cat 60 dozer wasting away in the woods of northern wisconsin. Its owned by two old-timers who brought it up in the 50's to build a road to thier camp and when the job was done it was parked and still remains. These guys are now in thier early 80's and Im afraid they may not be around for a real long time. Id like to rescue the Cat and maybe try to restore it but need a "ball park" dollar amount to offer. It has been started as recently as 5-6 years ago and all the "vitals have been kept covered. Any insight would be appreciated

Hard to say, photos would help, but the Sixty is certainly a collectible model, if it has a dozer kit on it from a Mfr., like an early LeTourneau model and the fact that the engine might not be seized, this might add some value. It sounds like a nice find, very hard to say what something is worth to someone in the situation you describe, I'd offer $500 - $1000 as is, have no idea what condition the undercarriage is in, could be seized up from sitting, but unless other circumstances prevent a reasonable offer from being accepted, start low and see what happens. Sad thing is that these old timers are getting up there in age, good thing is that if someone is given he chance to get this old Sixty, it may get a new lease on life and avoid the scrap heap. Sixty's in good condition seem to be worth a few thousand at minimum, see if you can find the serial number off it, I assume it has a standard gas engine, if it were an early diesel conversion might be of more interest or an early model with Best parts, Caterpillar and Best merged in 1925 to form the Caterpillar Tractor Company, but these were manufactured from 1919-1931, at both Peoria Ill. and San Leandro, CA. 18,000 something produced, weighs just over 20,000 lbs.
