In my 1984 JCB 3C 1400 the slew actuator seems to be slowing down in the cold weather. After looking in the manual it tells me to check the oil in it every 50 hours and drain the water off it every 200 hours and recheck the oil level. My problem is I don't see a place to drain off the water without taking out the plug at the bottom, then I will lose all the oil! In the manual it says check at point A and drian the water at point B but there is no diagram, does anyone have a diagram they can post to view? Or is there a different way of doing this? Also is regular 80W90 gear oil O.K. for this?

It has to the plug at the lowest point as the water will be in the bottom, what the manual means take out the plug till you get clean oil to come and then screw back,I would opt for changing all the oil,I forget how much it holds but its not a lot,do not overfill it and gear oil is fine, look at the book for the grade for the temp where you are,you may need a very light oil, water should not find its way in there unless some of the plastic discs are missing or too much of the power washer,on top of the king pin there should be a plastic cover with the JCB logo on it,look out the back window and it looks up at you, that should be in place and not cracked as it will let water in.
