Looking at skid loaders, need to lift and move anywhere from 500-4000 lbs. I've been looking at some JD's but haven't had any experience with them. Are New Hollands better? Thanks!

I work as an equipment mechanic. we sell used machines, so we get all brands. my favorite is bobcat. they seem to handle years of abuse better than most others and are usually easier to repair. the company offers us the best dealer support that i have ever seen and prices that won't kill you.
my bobcat is a 943. from 1993. it was used to process metal scrap at a recycling facility.
it had solid rubber tires on it when i got it.
it had been extremly abused every day of its life. it was on its third motor when i got it. i think that the operaters were burned out and just didnt care any more, but this poor loader has plates welded around all of the loader frame pivots where they had cracked from over lifting, and having solid tires on concrete. there is just no flex in the tires, so the loader flexes instead, leading to cracks. This is as tough of a service as any machine can be subjected to. my bob cat saw over 6600 hours of service like this before it came to me. it still works hard almost every day, i remanned the motor, put a seal into one drive motor, added a counter weight, its rated capacity is 2400#. and i welded up some new rims to handle heavy duty 12x16.5 tires. my bob cat is like a small dozer, and i put a grapple bucket on it it picks up cars, and almost anything that i ask of it.

If you ask me, i guess that my "best" skidsteer choice would be bobcat

WI.

I have aquired a 943. 13,000 serial # I think it would be about a 1993 ? It was uses at a county refuse milling station. It runs great when it runs. Seem to be very cold hearted - I haven't chg oil yet - But starter seems to be weak - doesn't spin her over too fast- then short out and kill the battery ? Any thoughts?

thanks

Far as I know, 3000 # is about the highest operating load rating out there. The NH Lx985 / LS190 are around that area. I have an LS170, which is rated at 1700# operating load. The most I can shake off a truck is 1-1/4 tonne skid (2750#), but I wouldn't begin to say it's safe..... I can do it, and then shove it around, but couldn't hope to lift it. However, the largest class of machine, especially with a counterweight could probably handle close to 4000#, if done carefully. HTH.

Skid loaders are rated at safe load capacity wheel loaders at 50 percent of tipping load 24 inches from mounting plate. The track loaders at 35 percent of tipping weight 24 inches from mounting plate. Ihave a T200 bobcat track loader rated at 2000lbs can load 6 ton of grade 8 rock in 4 buckets on level ground and is not tippy at all, 3000 lbs per bucket. A T300 which is rated at 50 percent more than the T200 would easly handle 4000 lbs under almost all conditions. As with any machine operating at or over capacity the operator needs to know what he can and cannot do safely so no body gets hurt

couldn't tell ya, haven't had a whole lot of experience with them. Tried looking on JD's website for lifting info and didn't find much, a bunch of jibberish but nothing that came out and said this or that...or atleast that I could find....

I have a Deere 5575 and it is a good machine. Lift capacity is only about 1300 lbs. Depending on the year Deere and New Holland are the same machine. In the newer ones I think Deere, Cat, New Holland, Bobcat and Gehl are about the same quality. Dealer support is important. Kubota does not make skid steers.

Local dealer support the most important choice. I would say John deere is better set up then New holland. Gehl is ok deutz some people like htem some dont. I personally have never got the life expectancy out of an jsut oild cooled motor. Sometimes parts are harder to find. John deere uses thier mmotors for air compressors, skid steers alot of items sometimes parts can be bought at say smith or another source cheaper then directly mother deere. Gehl i would say is better then new holland. Kubota doesnt make a bad skid steer but nothing like a Deere. Alot of people like case but the new ones have gone to pot in my opinion, they arent bult like they used to be but not much is anymore.
