timberjack 450c has cummins 6BTA diesel engine. water in the radiator goes straight into the oil. Looks like the engine froze with water in it. Busted block? bad gasket? What will it take to fix?

a good way to find leaks is to pull the oil pan if you can, and pressureize the cooling system. I use an air regulator set to about ten or fifteen pounds,of shop air, then i connect it to the over-flow hose on the radiator.the air passes through the little check valve in the cap, and the radiator cap makes sure that the pressure dosen't get out of hand.
then if you are lucky enough to to get the oil pan off, you should be able to spot your leaks.
this set up works great for finding almost any kind of water leak, like waterpump seals hoses radiator hoses etc

yes oil cooler is a good suggestion. also on my list injector sleves if this eng has them. My 855 cu inch cummins does along with cracked block and head.

I would probably look as the oil cooler first. Pull it and have it pressure tested. If its good I would pull the engine oil pan and then put water in the radiator. If the block is broke it will show up there quickly.

Hi. Make sure there aren't any core plugs inside the engine. Had this problem with a David Brown tractor a while back. Turned out there were 2 core plugs under the rocker cover. Don't know if Cummins ever used this daft idea though...

Could also be a cracked sleeve. I have that problem on my 190/220 cummins engine and haven't been able to find a good sleeve and piston for it.
