My buddy's D6C had loose tracks and they almost came off. We adjusted one with the help of the guys on this board. Pumped it up with grease and she came right out and tightened up. The other side though, is giving us trouble. It came out a little. We're pumping like crazy and she just doesn't want to move. It's like it's stuck. Could the movement be hampered by old rusted up slides? There is also tons of dirt and mud caked up in the tracks. I told him I think we need to get it cleaned up. Any other suggestions?

sounds like you need to repair the track adjuster. YES you can do it with out breaking the track.

A good dozer operator cleans track at least once a day and if it has a old build up of dirt rock and sticks then it could be stopping the track from comming out , all that dirt is adding to ware to the under carriage and holding in heat in the finals . And you don"t make the track banjo string tight there has to be atleast a couple inches of sag between the top roller .

Thanks for the info, Tractor Vet. I told him we need to clean that thing up. I was told to tighten up the track then back off about a 1/2" on the piston to get the proper sag. But we just couldn't get it to tighten. One track almost came off already that's why we're trying to tighten them up. Thanks again.
